THE LAST DANCE
Two garbage cans dance in a surreal void. The garbage cans, symbols of garbage and waste, become dancers in a "last dance" that seems both banal and existential. Their original function, associated with throwing away and forgetting, is suspended and transformed into a movement that refers to the inevitable: decay, the end and the question of what remains after the last dance - a minimalist yet profound symbol of our modern world, which draws order from chaos and meaning from what has been left behind.

BACKGROUND
Hollenbeq's reflection on individuality and emptiness
The Last Dance is a work that takes up and develops central themes of the Hollenbeq narrative in a disturbingly simple way. It combines the characteristic reduction and clarity of his visual language with a profound reflection on transience, purpose and the absurdity of human systems. The dancing dustbins are emblematic of the final phase of meaning - that which has been left behind and declared irrelevant returns to confront us with our finitude.
DANCING ON THE EDGE
In the context of Hollenbeq's series of works, The Last Dance fits seamlessly into his examination of the contradictions of modern systems and the fragility of human constructs. Like Singularities, which questions individuality and standardization, or Art Ends Here, which reflects on the limits of art and its perception, The Last Dance expands these approaches by focusing on the idea of "end" and "decay".
In Hollenbeq, the garbage cans, a symbol of what has been thrown away, become carriers of a universal message: they dance against the backdrop of a world that believes it can ignore garbage and finiteness. But the dance shows that nothing is really forgotten - everything leaves traces, whether as waste or as a symbol of what we overlook.
This work is not only a reflection on the end, but also an extension of Hollenbeq's conceptual approach. It challenges us to re-evaluate even the seemingly banal - garbage cans, colors, movements - and to understand them as part of a larger narrative. The Last Dance is thus a key work in Hollenbeq's oeuvre: a minimalist but profound statement about transience, repetition and the unexpected dances that remain at the end.
