The illusion of uniqueness in the digital age
Hollenbeq's Singularities is more than an illustration - it is a reflection on the construction of individuality in a technologized, visual world. The seemingly simple, glowing cell phone screens in different colors suggest difference and uniqueness. But Hollenbeq makes a subtle void visible: the screens remain empty in terms of content, and two of them are exactly the same color. Why? This apparent redundancy prompts us to question the notions of difference and identity in the digital age.

BACKGROUND
Hollenbeq's reflection on individuality and emptiness
Hollenbeq uses the emptiness of the screens to confront the viewer with the reality of a society that has made singularity its currency. The colors appear individual, but the emptiness behind them shows that this individuality often exists only superficially. In a culture that relies on self-presentation and visual differentiation, Singularities asks: What remains of individuality when it is only a surface?
This emptiness refers to the interchangeability that dominates modern society despite all the staging. It calls us to look for the depth behind the colors, even if the technology often only provides us with brilliance and no content. The deliberate doubling - two screens in identical color - makes the inner contradiction of the striving for uniqueness particularly visible: the "following" and imitation under the pretext of individuality. It shows how the desire for differentiation often paradoxically leads to uniformity.
THE SURFACE AS DECEPTION
Singularities fits harmoniously into Hollenbeq's narrative concept. As with all his works, the first impression is deceptive: the luminous screens appear simple, but their emptiness and deliberate repetition only reveal themselves on closer inspection. This approach invites us to go beyond the visible surface and reflect on our own role in the creation of meaning - a central principle in Hollenbeq's model of conceptual incubation.
The work invites the viewer to question the omnipresent superficiality and to take a deeper look - not only at the screens, but also at their own self. It makes it clear that individuality lies less in its external form than in the meanings we give it. Singularities is not only a reflection on the culture of singularities, but also a reference to our own position and responsibility within this society.
